Introducing ProjectONE Artist: MARTIN COX

Martin Cox (b. United Kingdom), has photographed a multitude of forgotten landscapes: the desolate valleys evacuated in the wake of the collapsed Welsh mining industry, former resort towns at California’s Salton Sea, an ocean liner embedded in a town square in China, and a ongoing Queen Anne-era English canal project. Martin Cox lives in Los Angeles, California.

My photographs suggest the passage of time and presence of history. Some of my project raise awareness of a vanishing maritime culture and inspire questions about past events while drawing upon the atmosphere of the present.  The port of Southampton provided early inspiration for my visual investigations.

Following Exeter School of Art and Design (United Kingdom) my first exhibition was in Camden Town, London. My photographs have been exhibited in galleries in Los Angeles, London, New York and San Francisco, and appeared in festivals in Africa and Australia. Following a recent solo exhibition, MARITIME,  at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, I was commissioned to create a large photographic mural for them of the Los Angeles Harbor.

My current project LANDED, is about an ancient landscape and manor house at a multi-generational/centuries-old estate in Great Britain.

Introducing ProjectONE Artist: SARA JANE BOYERS

SARA JANE BOYERS is a California fine art photographer who, after successful careers in both the music and publishing industries, has returned to a serious focus on her photography.  In her work Boyers searches for that iconic element of ordinary experience that defines the whole, choosing to render it subtly and with a sense of beauty that is provocative and demanding.

Boyers solo exhibition at Craig Krull Gallery, FINDING CHINATOWN: AN AMERICAN STORY, showcasing her decade+ fine art exploration of the US & Canada Chinatowns, was critically acclaimed.  GRIDLOCK, photographs shot from her driver's seat car while stuck in traffic, was recently exhibited at the Leica GalleryLA.  WATER TO PAPER: PAINT TO SKY, a retrospective of the 104 year old artist Tyrus Wong that included a photographic "story" by Boyers of the artist's 40 years of retirement creating and flying his hand-make kites, recently closed at SF's Walt Disney Family Museum to open Spring 2015 at NYC's Museum of Chinese in America.

Other work has been exhibited in museums, galleries & photo festivals including a GETTY PST exhibition at the Vincent Price Art Museum; Western Australia's FOTOFREO Biennial; DESIGN/REACTION at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, CHINESE AMERICANS: EXCLUSION/INCLUSION at the New York Historical Society and most recently, NO FIXED ADDRESS at The Leonardo, Salt Lake City.  Her award-winning photograph of the 747 Wing House was exhibited as one of ASMP's "Best Architectural Photographs of the Year."

Introducing ProjectONE Artist: ANN MITCHELL

Ann Mitchell was born in New York City and raised in California. With a BFA in Photography from Art Center College of Design, she worked as an award-winning advertising and editorial photographer for over a decade. She then left commercial photography to pursue her own imagery, complete her MFA from Claremont Graduate University and has been the Chair of the Art & Photography Department at Long Beach City College.

Her imagery is grounded in the Californian cities and landscapes she grew up in. There is almost a genetic imprint in her desire to explore how we live and what motivates us. An urban archeologist, she attempts to find the poetry in the everyday experience of our interior and exterior landscapes.

Her photographs have been included in a large number of solo and group exhibitions in the western United States. She has also served as curator and organizer of photo-related events. Her work has been featured in numerous publications and Balcony Press released Austin Val Verde: Impressions of a Montecito Masterpiece, a monograph of the Val Verde project. Ann Mitchell continues to teach and pursue her photographic interests in her new series Meditative Spaces Found While Traversing The Razors Edge, a constructed set of psychological landscapes.
