Ann Mitchell was born in New York City and raised in California. With a BFA in
Photography from Art Center College of Design, she worked as an award-winning advertising and
editorial photographer for over a decade. She then left commercial photography to pursue her own imagery, complete her MFA
from Claremont Graduate University and has been the Chair of the Art & Photography Department at Long Beach
City College.
Her imagery is grounded
in the Californian cities and landscapes she grew up in. There is almost
a genetic imprint
in her desire to explore
how we live and what motivates us. An urban archeologist, she
attempts to find the poetry in the everyday experience of our interior and exterior
landscapes.
Her photographs have been included
in a large number of solo and group exhibitions in the western United States. She has also served as curator
and organizer of photo-related events.
Her work has been featured in
numerous publications and Balcony
Press released Austin Val Verde:
Impressions of a Montecito Masterpiece, a monograph of the Val
Verde project. Ann Mitchell continues to teach and pursue her photographic interests
in her new series Meditative Spaces Found While Traversing The Razor’s Edge,
a constructed set of
psychological landscapes.
