Introducing ProjectONE Artist: MARTIN COX

Martin Cox (b. United Kingdom), has photographed a multitude of forgotten landscapes: the desolate valleys evacuated in the wake of the collapsed Welsh mining industry, former resort towns at California’s Salton Sea, an ocean liner embedded in a town square in China, and a ongoing Queen Anne-era English canal project. Martin Cox lives in Los Angeles, California.

My photographs suggest the passage of time and presence of history. Some of my project raise awareness of a vanishing maritime culture and inspire questions about past events while drawing upon the atmosphere of the present.  The port of Southampton provided early inspiration for my visual investigations.

Following Exeter School of Art and Design (United Kingdom) my first exhibition was in Camden Town, London. My photographs have been exhibited in galleries in Los Angeles, London, New York and San Francisco, and appeared in festivals in Africa and Australia. Following a recent solo exhibition, MARITIME,  at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, I was commissioned to create a large photographic mural for them of the Los Angeles Harbor.

My current project LANDED, is about an ancient landscape and manor house at a multi-generational/centuries-old estate in Great Britain.
